We do not usually restrict explorers from bringing phones to Explorer events but have some rules/understandings:
You loose it, your problem
You Break it, your problem
You use all your data, your problem
You use it abroad and run up a large bill, your problem
Other sections or groups may have different rules for their group, certainly within 2nd WK all other sections ban phones for most events. Please:
don't use your phone openly around other sections when they have been prohibited
don't lend your phone to others to make calls, we have had it in the past where a homesick scout was using an explorers phone every night to call home but was then crying for an hour afterwards, it took a lot of working out that there was a call and it was better when there wasn't one... you might think you are helping but often it doesn't.
We may or may not provide a means of charging phones, again your phone your problem
In the event of an emergency please ring 999 if appropriate, do not ring parents/other peoples parents etc. Let the adults deal with the situation and make that call to say that "Little Jonny has broken their leg", leave it to the leaders unless specifically asked to.
No phones etc during meals
No photos in showers/bedrooms/sleeping tents - think about what you are taking a photo of, you taking a selfie with your friend while someone else is getting changed...This may seem obvious but apparently not to all (not recently)..
no phones when we are trying to get jobs done.. washing up takes priority over your insta....
