Please find on this page our bank details for making BACs payments. OSM is a really useful tool for the leaders but they charge ~3% for all transactions. So making a BACs payment from your bank account is more efficient for us. However this needs someone to manually check the bank etc etc etc.
You will also find attached our payment policy after a few issues we had a couple of years ago.
We recognise that being a member of the Explorer unit is not cheap but we always try to make it good value. We set the price of subs each year to cover the costs of running the unit and the overheads of the facilities we enjoy. Just as a for instance the insurance bill for the boats alone is around £6000 PA.
If you need to take a break for a term due exam pressures etc from a logistical point of view it is not a problem, but can have a serious effect if 6 people decide to do that and ask to not pay subs. Therefore the answer is generally no, unless there is a special case for financial hardship.
We have had a few explorers who have gone to Boarding schools, we have recognised that he/she may not be present for much of the time and therefore have set the Subs at £1/3 of the normal rate.
We have some contacts and local charities that can help if for financial reasons any of our Explorers are unable to attend an event, we aim that money should not be a barrier to the events that we run. A 2 night trip with PGL will cost from around £190, we would aim to be in the £20-£40 range for a similar weekend.
Please feel free to speak us, and we can arrange weekly payments / or similar arrangements or seek funding support for certain events.
A non returnable deposit is required when you book a camp or event. The balance must be paid 4 weeks prior to the event. If a booking is made within 6 weeks of the event date, full payment is required at the time of booking.
Explorers who cancel within 4 weeks of the event date will be liable for the full event fee, unless we are able to fill the space, in which case all monies paid (where possible) less initial deposit will be refunded.
For some events this may not be possible, for instance where we have already paid for campsites or activities
For events under £20 - payment is expected at time of booking, either via OSM or by Bank Transfer, so that we can pre-pay for activity - events. When possible we will advise a booking deadline to secure your spot on the event
For events under £20 - refunds are at the discretion of the leader running the event, if we have booked an external activity, to which we are liable and on your behalf then it would be difficult to consider a refund I’m afraid.
